A flexible week based at Lundskógar

Day 1: arrive and make yourselves at home

Check in from 16:00, unpack and explore the house. Set out a simple dinner and toast the start of your stay with the welcome champagne. Save the first evening for the terrace and the view.

Day 2: discover the valley

Spend your first full day close to home. Choose a walk in Vaglaskógur, enjoy lunch at the house and let everyone settle into holiday mode. The hot tub can be your only plan for the afternoon.

Day 3: enjoy Akureyri

Head into town for coffee, shops and a visit to a gallery or the Botanical Garden. Leave time for a geothermal swim or dinner in town before returning to the valley.

Day 4: Goðafoss and Mývatn

Plan a day east towards Goðafoss and Lake Mývatn. Take in the waterfall and choose a few places around the lake, such as Dimmuborgir or Námafjall. Bring layers and give the day enough room for lunch and stops along the way.

Day 5: a day on the water

Choose a whale-watching trip from Akureyri or Húsavík, with time to enjoy the departure town. If the weather looks more promising earlier in the week, swap this day with another.

Day 6: make it yours

Return to a favourite place, take another forest walk or spend the day enjoying the house. Cook something special together and make your last full evening one to savour. In the darker months, check the aurora forecast before stepping outside.

Day 7: one last look at the valley

Enjoy breakfast together and leave time for packing before checkout at 11:00. Plan the onward journey around your flight or next destination, road conditions and the weather.

Adapt the week to the season

This is a starting point for your plans. In winter, make the most of daylight and leave room to change outings when conditions call for it. During the brighter months, let a leisurely meal or an evening walk stretch a little longer.
