Northern Lights at Villa North

Warm water, a dark sky and the possibility of something magical

Some evenings deserve a little longer outside. At Lundskógar, your private hot tub opens onto the valley and the night sky. When darkness, clear skies and aurora activity come together, you may see the northern lights from the terrace itself.

The luxury of staying right here

There is something special about watching the sky from the place you are staying. Step onto the terrace after dinner, let your eyes adjust and take in the view. The warmth of the house is only a few steps away.

Plan for the darker months

Aurora viewing needs darkness, so the longer nights of autumn and winter offer the setting to look for it. Iceland’s bright summer nights bring a different pleasure: more light for evenings on the terrace and time outdoors.

Let the forecast guide you

The Icelandic Met Office’s aurora forecast brings together cloud cover and an activity outlook. Look for a clear patch of sky as well as activity, then step outside and see how the evening unfolds. A sighting is a natural possibility, rather than a scheduled event.

Make yourself comfortable

Bring warm layers, a hat and footwear for the terrace. Enjoy the hot tub, keep a robe close by and take breaks indoors whenever you like. If you want photographs, pack a tripod and get familiar with your camera’s night settings before the sky puts on a show.

An evening worth enjoying either way

A soak, conversation and the valley after dark are a lovely part of the stay in their own right. If the aurora appears, you already have a place to watch together.

Questions

Can I see the northern lights from the hot tub?

You may be able to see them from the terrace and hot tub when the sky is dark and clear and aurora activity is visible. Check the Icelandic Met Office forecast during your stay.
